人类起源、农业起源和文明起源是考古学在全世界范围内的三大课题,中国作为农业起源中心之一,理应成为农业起源研究的重要力量。在考古研究所科技考古中心的实验室里,赵志军任意打开了几匣抽屉,里面是几千年前不同时期的谷物遗存。这些看起来其貌不扬已经炭化的种子,在植物考古学家眼里则是“宝贝”——它们为探寻农业在中国的起源与发展提供了重要线索。为了找到这些线索,赵志军同“五谷杂粮”打交道已经超过20年。从1993年参与江西仙人洞稻作农业考古调查开始,到寻找小米起源、研究小麦传入中国的时间和途径,他希望从以前被遮蔽的细节中发现古人的日常生活,并进一步探索文明形成与古代农业发展的相互关系,以及早期东西方文化交流中的农业因素。“有人说小麦是一个传奇的农作物,养育了大多数古代文明的国家,除了中国。”
