UploadVR GameCast – Episode 3: Rift v. Vive

Hey there pal. Look I’m really sorry about last week. We weren’t here for you but the thing is…something came up: back to back product launches.

Come on now don’t look at me like that. I’ll tell you what I know just the thing to cheer you up.

Now that the training wheels are off, the UploadVR GameCast is sticking to a schedule. We will be posting every week – come rain, or shine, or overwhelming product launch – on Tuesday.

The past two weeks have been insane. We now live in a world where both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are available for commercial purchase.

Is this the beginning of VR’s golden age? Or will these devices find themselves lumped together with the Apple Newton and Sega Saturn (RIP) in the eyes of technological history?

David and I can’t answer that. What we can do is talk about video games and these two platforms have pulled tons of great ones along with them in their wake.

Let’s get started.

Episode 3: Rift v. Vive

Cast:

Joe Durbin – UploadVR Staff Writer and GameCast Host,

David Jagneaux – UploadVR Games Editor,

In this episode David and I discuss game reviews, our personal 10/10 video games, and the launch libraries for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Some highlights include:

-A breakdown of UploadVR’s rating policies.

-Our opinions on the importance of “room-scale” and hand tracked controllers in VR video games.

-Joe’s woefully unpopular choice for greatest game of all time.

-David declaring which platform he believes has the better launch library overall.

-A special appearance by Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell??? (Note: Bruce unfortunately had to cancel and does not appear on this podcast).

Thank you all so much for tuning in week after week. We really do appreciate the love and please feel free to subscribe to the podcast by using the link below.

Next week’s topic will be “What Makes A ‘Good’ VR Video Game.”

You can tweet any questions for that show to @Joe_Durbin or email them to joe@uploadvr.com. Also be sure to check out our new sister podcast, Presence, airing every Thursday on UploadVR.

We love you all.

Hype? Hype is what gives VR its power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us, and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together. UploadVR's GameCast > Multiplayer Shooters Are Taking The Leap Into Virtual Reality

Multiplayer shooters are one of – if not the -most popular gaming genres of all time. The Call of Duty franchise alone has raked in over $11 billion (with a “b”) in lifetime revenue. When Golden Eye debuted on the Nintendo 64 in 1997 we were all introduced to the special magic of gunning your friends down and then immediately denying any “screen cheating...
