Episode: Giving up isn’t the same as moving on!

Giving up isn’t the same as moving on!

Should I just give up?

I test lots of things for one year. If at that time it is not the success I had planned for, I typically stop spending time and money there and move on to the next opportunity. But that’s much different than giving up. All of life’s experiences are preparing us for things to come. If we give up, it implies we stop and just wallow in our misery and disappointment. I give more examples of what this looks like in this episode.

Episode #685 October 11, 2019

Hi, this is Dan Miller – and yes you’re listening to the 48 Days Radio show – where each week we take 48 minutes to dive into real life questions about finding your passion, deciding what kind of life you want to live – and then finding or creating work that allows you to show up every day, excited to be able to do something that is meaningful, fulfilling – and profitable.  This is where normal, indecision and ambiguity come to die.  Welcome to the 48 Days Radio Show.

Any advice for a 28 year old looking to really find a long-term reliable position

The bad news is there’s no such thing as a long-term, well paying, reliable position.

The good news is you can create your own security by knowing what your unique talent and passion are.

Your security is knowing you are in the driver’s seat to provide work that matters for people who care.

How can I meet my favorite author?

You’ll find a lot of authors and successful people are very generous with their time. I have met a lot of great authors by attending events where they are speaking or attending.

Have you had a chance to meet a favorite author or musician? If so, drop me a note and tell me how you made that happen and the impact it has had on you. I’ll be sharing those in my next episode.

How do you know when it’s time to cut your losses and close a business?

This is a great question that was asked inside the 48 Days Eagles Community and got a lot of GREAT answers.

My cut off is one year. If I invest one year in a business and I don’t see some significant movement then I move on.

There are a lot of times when you can realize that you’ve learned a lot from your experience but you need to move on.

Let’s unpack the concept of “sunk cost bias.”

Moving on is a totally different mindset than giving up.

How do you find the balance between being content and not greedy?

There is a difference between living your dream and being content. As long as you have the belief that something better is coming up ahead, you can be content.

Being content is a mindset. It’s not a destination. It’s a lifelong process.

Being greedy and moving toward your dream are two entirely different concepts.

You can be content and still be working toward very big goals.

You can be making $10 an hour and be greedy.
